Moammar Rana Shares His Views on the Decline of Pakistani Cinema

Moammar Rana, one of the most prominent names in Pakistan’s film and television industry, has enjoyed a long and successful career. Known for his versatility, he rose to fame with his debut film Kuriyon Ko Daalay Daana and went on to star in many blockbusters such as Deewane Tere Pyaar Ke, Fire, Chooriyan, Jhoomar, Koi Tujh Sa Kahan, and Channa Sachi Muchi. He also proved his talent on television with dramas like Roshan Sitara, Mehram, and Dil, Diya, Dehleez. Beyond the screen, Moammar Rana is a family man, married to Mehnaz Moammar Rana, with two daughters, Rea and Raneya — Rea being a skilled makeup artist.

Recently, the Chooriyan star gave an interview to Discover Pakistan, where he candidly spoke about the downfall of Pakistani cinema.

Reflecting on the industry’s past, he recalled the success of Yeh Dil Aapka Huwa, which was a huge hit and performed exceptionally well at the box office. He explained that such success should have guided filmmakers to understand audience preferences. Instead, the industry kept repeating the same formula without innovation.

Moammar Rana shared that actors were often forced into stereotypical roles, wearing laacha and kurta while following the same predictable plots. He pointed out how films became monotonous:

  • The same costumes,
  • Repetitive characters with moustaches,
  • Two heroes, one heroine, and three villains,
  • And the inevitable ending where either he or Shaan would kill the villains and win the heroine.

According to him, this lack of creativity and variety eventually pushed audiences away, leading to the decline of the industry.

Moammar Rana’s honest take reflects the frustration many actors and viewers have felt over the years. His comments highlight the need for originality and fresh ideas if Pakistani cinema wants to regain its former glory.
